The impacts of water level fluctuations from paddy fields and aquaculture ponds on wetland habitats for wintering waterbirds: Implications for wetland management

چکیده

The distribution and composition of wetland habitats for wintering waterbirds are heavily influenced by water level fluctuations. Through polder construction aquaculture activities, paddy fields ponds have decreased the lateral connectivity fluctuations in lake. However, impacts on habitat suitability, which can be seen using high-resolution images analysis, often cannot separate disturbances caused ponds, it is difficult to capture actual impact habitats. Based remote sensing image data hydrological data, we selected Caizi Lake as a study site comparatively analyzed changes waterbird sequence under two scenarios. Our work showed that should considered potential options creating more suitable migratory if combined with reasonable effective management within ponds. present results could facilitate sustainable utilization wetlands provide support small managing levels

Conversion of Wastewater Ponds for Wetland Mitigation

The Conceptual Wetland Mitigation Plan for Phase II expansion to the John J. Briscoe Reservoir (Briscoe Reservoir) near Monroe, Georgia uses innovative approaches to restoring palustrine wetland functions to existing lacustrine habitats. This paper presents strategies for the design of forested and scrub-shrub wetland habitats in former wastewater treatment ponds and wetland design approach and...

Wetland Suitability and Connectivity for Trans-Saharan Migratory Waterbirds

To complete their life cycle waterbirds rely on patchily distributed and often ephemeral wetlands along their migration route in a vast unsuitable matrix. However, further loss and degradation of remaining wetland habitats might lead to a configuration and size of stopovers that is no longer sufficient to ensure long-term survival of waterbird populations. By identifying optimal conservation ta...

Effects of hydrological regime on development of Carex wet meadows in East Dongting Lake, a Ramsar Wetland for wintering waterbirds

Wet meadows are one of the most important ecological components in floodplain, and are among the most dynamic ecosystems. Understanding the development of wet meadows and contributing environmental factors can provide better support for wetland management. Carex meadows in East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve (EDLNNR) provide vital wintering ground for thousands of migratory waterbirds, a...

Mitigating Urban Wetland Impacts on Downstream Water Resources

Wetlands in older urban areas have often been integrated into stormwater management systems and exhibit severe degradation from receiving decades of untreated and uncontrolled urban runoff. Vegetative diversity is often poor and dominated by a few hardy species such as cattail (Typha latifolia) or reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea). These wetlands may also be affected by legacy impacts fr...
